This week saw a lot of quality time with family. Saturday was spent at the parentals, catching up on some much needed love from the family. We got some goodies from my aunt and dinner with the folks and I caught up on much needed rest at the parentals and also during the journey there and back.
On Sunday, the Hubs made a cinnamon french toast breakfast. So decadent. But so needed.
Monday saw a spontaneous date night with the Hubs. It was drizzling out but we braved it and walked along the park connector to get to a new coffee joint in the ‘hood. We had some festive drinks -Gingerbread coffee-and split a rum raisin ice cream. The joint had a quiet hubbub to it, people were talking but the high ceilings made it great for everyone to have their own personal conversations. It was nice to chill during a weekday night, so rare during the Hub’s school term. Having coffee then also helped me unwind from work-its nearing the end of the year and my body needs a break from everyday events of work.
And also because earlier that morning, because I have been thinking about making glutinous rice all week in the stone cast pot my mum gave me, I got up at 4am and made glutinous rice with chinese sausage, mushroom, minced meat and dried shrimp for breakfast. I guess cooking and the power of my obsession has a stronghold over me.
And today, I attended a work training on something that I liked and something I believed in. It’s so nice to see familiar faces and do things I love. But as the Hubs says, I will learn more from things I am uncomfortable doing and things I don’t really love doing. Okay-it didn’t sound that negative when he said it but that’s the gist. Well, it gets a bit under my skin when 70% of the time, I am doing things that really push me out of my comfort zone. I love developing content and I am good at it-that and doing program related stuff. On the other hand, I am uncomfortable in fixing social situations, fixing relationships. ensuring everybody is ok and giving “orders” or correcting people but sometimes that has to be done. Wow-My learning curve better be good. I took an MBTI test on Sunday and my personality was the same as a few years back. I’m an INTJ and that is why sometimes I am uncomfortable in my work skin.
INTJs are natural leaders, although they usually choose to remain in the background until they see a real need to take over the lead. When they are in leadership roles, they are quite effective, because they are able to objectively see the reality of a situation, and are adaptable enough to change things which aren’t working well. They are the supreme strategists – always scanning available ideas and concepts and weighing them against their current strategy, to plan for every conceivable contingency.
INTJs spend a lot of time inside their own minds, and may have little interest in the other people’s thoughts or feelings. Unless their Feeling side is developed, they may have problems giving other people the level of intimacy that is needed. Unless their Sensing side is developed, they may have a tendency to ignore details which are necessary for implementing their ideas.
The INTJ’s interest in dealing with the world is to make decisions, express judgments, and put everything that they encounter into an understandable and rational system. Consequently, they are quick to express judgments. Often they have very evolved intuitions, and are convinced that they are right about things. Unless they complement their intuitive understanding with a well-developed ability to express their insights, they may find themselves frequently misunderstood. In these cases, INTJs tend to blame misunderstandings on the limitations of the other party, rather than on their own difficulty in expressing themselves. This tendency may cause the INTJ to dismiss others input too quickly, and to become generally arrogant and elitist.
Well well. That’s what learning is. It’s all about gritting the teeth and getting on with it.
On a lighter note, we discovered quinoa and we have been making it for dinners quite often. It’s light and unbelievably tasty although it looks plain. W have been eating it with baked chicken quite often. Sprinkling lemon juice on quinoa brings out the flavour more.
Also, we have been amusing ourselves at Molly’s expense.
